Regional Transportation Planning

Overview

Transportation planning is critical in achieving holistic, multi-model systems by identifying the short and long-term goals of Alaska DOT&PF, communities, Tribal entities, and other transportation stakeholders. Participation in transportation planning efforts across the state and region helps ensure that businesses and Southeast residents are provided economic opportunities and afforded the systems to meet household needs.

Southeast Conference plays an active role in providing input in the development and updates to the various documents that make up Alaska DOT&PF’s “family of plans” including long-range plans for the state’s overall transportation system, the new AMHS 2045 long-range plan, and the Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan.

Southeast Conference has also been engaged in other regional transportation planning efforts including participating in USFS Long Range Transportation Planning efforts and community meetings, working with DOT&PF and FHWA to establish SEC as a Regional Planning Organization, partaking in the Alaska Municipal League’s Thriving Communities program, representing Southeast Alaska at NADO’s Rural Transportation Conferences and events, and providing feedback on local transportation planning efforts.
