Southeast Alaska Business Climate Survey 2026
The Southeast Alaska Business Climate Report is the region’s annual survey of business leaders and serves as a benchmark of business confidence across Southeast Alaska. Based on responses from 360 business owners and executives representing approximately 10,000 employees in 20 Southeast Alaska communities, the 2026 report found that the economic outlook improved from 2025, although business confidence remains below historic highs. Employers reported more cautious hiring plans, growing concern about quality of life, and increasing adoption of artificial intelligence to improve business operations. Together, these findings provide a timely snapshot of the issues shaping Southeast Alaska’s economy.

The Economic Impact of the USDA Southeast Alaska Sustainability Strategy Investment Spending 2025 report examines the regional economic effects of USDA investments made through the Southeast Alaska Sustainability Strategy (SASS). Using regional economic modeling, the report estimates the employment, wages, and business activity generated by SASS-funded projects while documenting the distribution of investments across Southeast Alaska. Between 2022 and 2025, SASS invested $20 million in 55 projects, generating an estimated $29.6 million in regional economic activity, supporting 436 job-years of employment, and producing $12.6 million in labor income. The analysis also found that approximately 89% of project expenditures remained within Southeast Alaska, maximizing the economic benefits of federal investment for local businesses, workers, and communities.
